Juan M. del Nido

Affiliate

Juan M. del Nido is an affiliate of the Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy.

Drawing from his undergraduate education in neoliberal economics, his experience as a former political consultant in Buenos Aires, and his doctoral training in social anthropology, Juan studies how technology ethicises political and economic knowledge.

He is currently a Philomathia Fellow at Cambridge’s Department of Social Anthropology, studying the ethics of behavioural interventions (“nudging”) and how new technologies depoliticise expertise. His previous research into post-political reasoning around Uber’s conflict in Buenos Aires resulted in his book Taxis vs Uber: Courts, Markets, and Technology in Buenos Aires (Stanford U. Press, 2022), awarded the Carol Ember Prize by the Society of Anthropological Sciences.

His work has been supported by the ESRC, the Philomathia Foundation, the Royal Economic Society, the Argentine Council for Foreign Affairs, and the Royal Anthropological Institute, and awarded among others the latter’s Sutasoma Award for Research of Potentially Outstanding Merit.
